I’m not really into politics

But politics are into me

By CadmaPublished 4 days ago Updated 3 days ago 3 min read

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

Into you and everyone I pass in the street

It's in the places where I buy my groceries

I think I saw it in my friend's kid's school

But I graduated years ago what am I supposed to do

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

It's in the newsstands and books I read

Or maybe every viral video I see

I saw it on an application for a job or a loan at the bank

No, I don't have any cloves; only opinions, to be frank

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

Slicing up medicine and insurance policies

I don't understand why is it following me?

I have nothing to do with this, maybe they should comply

Because I know politics has never lied

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

My nephew is not safe for not looking like me

And my neighbor is used to police brutality

My youth is my reason to turn a blind eye

My faith says all of these complaints will fly by

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

But on second thought, into me? Not really

And I'm okay with that you see

Why are prices steadily increasing?

I'm not rich but I'm not poor, I matter more than they

I'm not really into politics

But I know politics is really into me

I can deny it and say let's wait and see

My wife is pregnant and sick help us please

You're being ridiculous politics has nothing to do with me

You're just looking for things to say to me

I'm not really into politics

But politics is really into me

This place was nice and buzzing; why is it so empty?

It's better, I like it quiet I could never get a seat

I like my meals warm but the chef was not there

How am I supposed to enjoy; this isn't fair?

I'm not really into politics

But politics is really into me

The news seems rehearsed but maybe it's just me

They said it was their fault and that makes sense to me

Dammit I ran out, I can't afford supplies

I'm tired of these liberals spreading all these lies

I'm not really into politics

My lifestyle affords me that privilege

At least until politics knocked twice for me

No I don't carry citizen papers on me

I'm complying please I just want to go home

Why do I suddenly feel so alone

I’m not really into politics

But politics are into me

Both sides are bad if you ask me

No the law only applies to me

She would have done the same; so nothings changed to me

No I’m not scared, why should I be?

If I cover my eyes and ears, silence is all I’ll see

I’m not really into politics

But politics might be into me

I’m old so I’ll die soon and my kids are grown you see

You’re paranoid. This is not a repeated past you see

I’m not sure if I can trust someone who doesn’t look like me

Why should she vote when I can do it for her?

My future son-in-law can do it for my daughter

I’m not really into politics

But politics seems like it’s into me

My home and wallet though empty feels heavy

But sure I will still give you everything

I don’t have much for myself to live

But if it is required…I will always give

I'm not really into politics

But I can see politics is into me

I don't know how or why or what or when this took to finally hit me

Maybe I can match and petition and be angry

But everyone around tells me it's too late to care

I’m not really into politics

And now the politics own me

I’m not really into politics, so why can’t I be free?

Ooft the ending hit. The repetitions are so solid throughout and amplify your message more each time. The unfortunate truth of a society we can’t just simply exist in :( I really enjoyed this x

The repetition hits harder each time. It really shows how inescapable politics becomes.

What stayed with me is how ordinary everything feels in this piece, groceries, school, jobs, family, and how unsettling that ordinariness becomes. You made politics feel less like a headline and more like background noise we pretend not to hear until it’s too loud to ignore.

  • I agree>. We are fucked by the system . . > I'm not really into politics But I know politics is really into me
