I’m Not Okay

A Poem of Friendship

I’m not okay

She said

Tear tinged voice

These words were

Not easy for her

The strong one

Rarely giving voice

To the pain

I knew she felt

Physical, and so

Much more

The fragility of life

Spoken yet silent.

She would fight

A warrior

Who

Would fight

A thousand battles.

It’s okay not

To be okay

Those who matter

Will stand by you

Anyway

And those who

Don’t

They don’t matter

Anyway.

Clinical depression

She wrote

Followed by

I’m sorry.

You don’t have

Anything to be

Sorry for

My words were

Gentle

And I prayed

Full of meaning.

I heard the pain

Even in the words

She did not say.
