I Feel Obliged

a lost-ish poem

Today

I feel obliged

To put pen to paper

To poetically publish

To ornately orate

To lavishly lament

Stating my position

For history’s remission

Today

I feel obliged

To stand up

To stand out

To scream

To bellow from mountaintops

But

Mountains crumble

Ages wisdom

Forfeit

Instead, come cheers

As masters

Soar

Into orbit

Today

I feel obliged

To turn through pages

Enjoying tales of Arthur

And Aragorn

And hope…

Like a fool

An honest...

Fool

Today

I feel obliged

To hope…

To hope…

To…

This is so well done. I enjoyed each line, start to end.

  • Wonderful read… I’m reeling and can’t focus on any favourite part. Love the ending ✅

I feel like my brain is a cacophony of classic fantasy after reading this 😁

So many of my emotions are found in your poem. It's like you crawled into my brain and heart and pulled the words from each. Brilliantly done. I love it.

Wonderful poem 👌🏽 That line about mountains crumbling – that's heavy. But you're right, we need to hold onto hope, even if it feels foolish sometimes.

Such great repetition into faltering with the final lines! This is wonderful, Matthew! I'd like to enjoy one of those fantastic tales of hope today too

I must ask, what makes you suddenly feel so obliged?

Carpe diem!!! No matter how the day begins or ends, freewill always has something to say about it. Loved the expressive angst that leads to content here.

  • Ah, this felt so relatable. Loved your poem!

Love the themes of what you've been doing lately! Very medieval of you! 😉

This feels.. familiar Matthew. Some days we’ll want to scream our frustration, others to just escape into fantasy. Nicely stated.

    Sometimes that's how it feels

For me the word ‘obliged’ stands out. Once that happens I feel personal imagination or freedom disappears.

Ah this ever fluctuating feeling. Comes and goes. Occasionally lose motivation to write so I start reading more to gain it back 🤣

Love the short syntax and potent meaning!

Nice one! You've got this blend of deep thoughts and hope mixed in with a touch of longing. The whole "feeling obliged" thing feels really relatable, and the Arthur/Aragorn bit adds a cool vibe. Totally feels like a journey in a few lines. Keep it coming!

For me, you’ve expressed that age old battle between writing our thoughts and disappearing into the worlds of others very well

This is fantastic, pal. I love it when you turn your creative brain to poetry. I love all the alliteration-sorta bits! I love it all, though. Powerful and inspiring!
