How to Ride a Roller Coaster

Your first time

By Mindy ReedPublished about 22 hours ago 1 min read

First, get in line

Feel the energy of others

Clear your mind

You keep avoiding the sensation

Instead, embrace the rush of anticipation.

Next, reject all thoughts of eminent danger

Everyone around has done this many times

You can learn what it’s like by asking a stranger

There must be a reason so many wait for hours

Something about the thrill must give them power.

As you think about their replies of elation

The fun they have riding again and again

The reason they ride a coaster on every vacation

Try and embrace the joy they feel on each ride

Accept the G-force adventure and do not hide.

Finally, it’s your turn to climb

Sit in a middle seat and strap in tight

The most intense sensation comes from behind

The car will rise slowly until you get to the top

Get ready, gravity takes hold, with speed comes the drop.

Now, all you can do is let it all go

Your brain is confused and your stomach has flipped

Wind whips your face as adrenaline flows

The scream you release has never been heard

The terror you feel won’t be cured.

The fear is still real, more intense

You were right to be worried

Being on the contraption makes no sense

Be proud you were brave, although scared

Once in a lifetime ride never again to be shared.
