The summer burnt quick and my heart aches
for all the forgotten lovers and missed sunsets,
for you -
making eggs in the morning, strong black coffee
restless eyes.
Short skirts and hot heat flashes,
the home we shared even only for a while,
the mirror and your embrace,
the laughter and the arguments -
there's no home without your morning coffee.
Tears and the unfairness of it all
raising hell all over the Pacific:
may our eyes stay level to the skyline and never miss a sunset.
I open my eyes and it's last summer,
it's easy, it's flowing
you're next to me.
We are in a golden room where all dreams come true,
and I ask you:
What do you want darling?
You take me on a ride in the Caribbean,
you blast the AC for me although you hate it,
you eat my favourite fish although you don't eat animals,
you hope that our gold liguor nights will change my mind.
I take my first sip of mezcal, my mind already
spinning:
I lift up on one elbow, in gold-lit private pool,
lost in your awaiting eyes
I promise you I'll come back home.
