Hello You
Photo by Luis Alfonso Orellana on Unsplash

I float away inside a dream

Where each door unlocks more of me

Somewhere I’ve been, locked in the past

Someone one I’ve been, only recast

The red door leads to loves I’ve known

The blue one left me all alone

The yellow finds fields of delight

The black to edges of the night

Sitting as still as I can be

Amazed by everything I see

Stealing away, dipping inside

Basking in life’s liquid sunshine

The pouring rain in bright sun rays

Warming and cleansing on my face

Some ravaged sheets and waves of lust

Some bolted tight, covered in rust

Some I was sure I’d traveled through

Now seems to be something else, brand new

Where doors are mismatched and needing paint

Where angels and devils hesitate

Waiting for me to choose the door

To places I’ve never been before

Though familiar to me, still strangely odd

Where the path was one time touched by god

Bravely stepping into the unknown

To journeys that are still unshown

To find the me beyond reflection

Giving her love and true affection

Until I am again, wholly found

I’ll follow the paths scattered around

It's no easy feat to write a really good rhyming poem. The rhyme scheme can make some lines feel forced. This poem overcomes that in such an easy way. It has a beautiful flow to it and I felt as if I was drifting down a slow river of lovely words. Well done on Leaderboard. This was fantastic.

I love how the image matches the poem, the part of the different doors in your life and what they mean. Nicely done, Kelli.

I love the colored doors and this part in particular: "mismatched and needing paint." I picture this as a wondrous journey where "needing paint" calls one to reenter through thresholds of the past again, and relive experiences, with a focus on discovering an alternate mindset. This poem will remain with me. Congratulations, Kelli, on your top story and for making this week's leadership board ❣🌹

  • Beautiful poem, thankyou for sharing and congratulations on Top Story xx

I really liked the part about the different colored doors and what they represent. It is a sweet way to think about growing and finding yourself. You have a great way of making a journey feel like a beautiful dream.

Though experiences and similarities are common, our individual journeys are unique ones, unfolding in ways that often defy description. But by gosh golly, your poem did such justice here! Congrats on the top story!

I love how you brought the imperfections to consciousness that we all either refuse to recognize or deliberately ignore only to finally realize that's the way our lives are and should never look for the perfection we'll never find. This is perfect.

The image of the mismatched doors needing paint really stayed with me—it felt like such a gentle, honest way of admitting that not everything inside us is neat or finished, and that some paths only look familiar until we stand in front of them again. I loved how the colors carried different emotional weights without spelling anything out, especially that quiet tension between comfort and risk near the end. When you imagine “the me beyond reflection,” do you feel like she’s someone you’re moving toward, or someone who’s been waiting patiently for you to notice her?
