Heat Dome

Real Poetic’s Anniversary acrostic challenge

Are you paying attention to how you live in this

near meltdown, this regular

never-ending heat

index?

Voracious consumption is a bellows of heat over the entire

Earth, and still, we strip the land of ore and

rare earth metals,

scarring her surface,

avoiding the truth that we

really need to face. Sacrifices are unwelcome because humans are not

yet enlightened, living selfishly and callously under our fabricated heat dome.

Hi Ac - You mention Miami & Chicago: You woudn't want to be under the constant triple digit 'heat dome' here without a/c - I don't remember it ever being so hot. 'j'.in.l.a.

I like your take on this challenge. ❤️ This topic is complicated and scary because we are beyond the tipping point

I find this a very well penned piece. Although I feel that climate change is not so easily explained or battled (this being an area of my degree expertise). We do as humanity need to come together and have some real discussions to help effect real healthy stewardship of earth and its resources.

I love this. Having written extensively about my childhood birthdays, I feel like I have decent sense memories as to what late June *should* feel like, and it’s terrifyingly evident what has changed. Thank you for writing this, as I think it’s extremely important to acknowledge what’s going on.

This was powerful stuff, Andrea. I could feel the heat of anger coming off it, and warning. Heat dome - such a great way to describe the Earth.

There have been many warnings and signs...only a few really listen to the ticking of the clock. Serious words here.

  • Yes Andrea. It’s sad that most of the problems we have with with climate are of our own doing. We are in our own heat dome.

The line "we really need to face" is a poignant reminder of our responsibility to act as ....stewards of the planet, calling on us to wake up and take action before it's too late. Your poem is a stark and sobering warning that serves as a powerful call to action for change....You have powerfully captures the urgency of our environmental crisis...... fantastic poem....I loved reading it!

So true, one day the Earth will just shake us all off into oblivion.

It's even hot in the UK today (not on the world stage!). It's not the extreme heat that reminds us we risk it all though.
