A gift that I received

Your colors different from the others

on the shelves

my coworkers and I

properly fawned over you

I couldn't help but snile

every time I looked at your petals

pretty and oblivious

you even went on a picnic

with a candle and a hymn book

next to an ancient oak tree

in the pasture behind my property

I'm glad that you got to experience that

such a beautiful and innocent

moment in time

it's funny how we never think

it will end

and then it does

but you...

you have been steadfast

blooming out of season

for many seasons

almost two years

To be exact

a one-season lifespan

and still blooming

a beautiful memory

of a beautiful moment

in a beautiful time

of my life

when the grass was greener

and the stars brighter

and the sky was bluer

when I felt safe

and protected

and so very blessed

I look at you now

you have dared to survive

defying the odds

you're just a little plant

but you have the power

to force me

to go back

God alone is the one

who gives

synchronicity

and a reason for flowers

may you keep blooming

to remind me of

when Time

stood still.

Let it be so

Amen.
