Glowafter

until the first time again

By Harper LewisPublished 4 days ago Updated a day ago 1 min read

before the snow got dirty, you loved me,

wrote my name in cursive on the lining of your soul when you

gathered all the courage in the galaxy next door,

swallowed it like an aspirin, leaning your head forward

to ease it down your throat and let the question spill over your lips into my eyes,

and I gave them to you. Remember the perfection

of that moment, a frozen flame dancing like disaster caught in a cyclone for a thousand years,

light—silver and golden,

that’s all we were, and it was everything every bit as much as that last kiss,

your lips clinging like wet silk to mine, no need to breathe.

Time can’t trespass here; this gate keeps itself.

The image of him “swallowing all the courage in the galaxy next door like an aspirin” and then letting the question spill into your eyes… that hit me hard. It feels so specific and vulnerable, like that suspended second before everything changes. And then the shift from silver-and-gold stardust to that last kiss “clinging like wet silk” — it made me think about how beginnings and endings can feel almost identical in intensity, just charged differently. I keep wondering about that line “before the snow got dirty” — do you feel like time is what stained it, or was it always fragile underneath all that light?

So beautiful and full of feeling. “Before the snow got dirty” is such a powerful, delicate image. The courage swallowed like an aspirin, wow.

    Love this, beautiful 😍

  • Oh this is so beautiful! There are so many perfect lines that vividly depict the rich emotion of love. Before the snow got dirty... Did this love end tragically? Is this a love that exists forever just in memory? Let the question spill over your lips into my eyes...I read this line several times because I loved it so much. your lips clinging like wet silk to mine...I could feel that, the lingering memory of a perfect kiss.
