Garden Zen

and beautiful stillness

Garden Zen

Footsteps echo on the cobblestone path

The air was sticky and charged with the anticipation of rain

Barely blooming bulbs busy with buzzing bumblebees

Packing their pockets with pastel yellow pollen

Butterflies danced through the air like graceful ballerinas

Birds chirped love songs to the beat of the rustling trees

Above, a sad cloud above starts to cry

Slow, fat droplets turn to wet sobs

Quiet stillness consumes the garden

As the creatures take shelter

A gazebo ahead promises sanctuary

She wipes the sky’s tears from my face

Her lips taste of coconut chapstick

Hand in hand, head on shoulder

Petrichor and floral fills the air and our lungs

The only sound now is pattering rain

And her breath on my ear

The rain stops as quickly as it began

For a moment, the world paused in harmonious, silent zen

In a breath, the busy buzzing resumes

And sun rays reflect sparkling warmth off puddles of tears

Nature resumes, as if nothing had happened at all
