How to Stop the Green-Eyed Monster

By Gabriel ShamesPublished about 7 hours ago 1 min read
If you let jealousy take over

They have something better than me! God forbid. Fur-bid, really. Because you think of tearing out your hair. You feel something bubble up from deep inside.

A knot in the stomach, a burning in the gut. Tension squeezing your chest inward… wrapped up around a coil.

Those are the claws of jealousy, mangling you from the inside out. They’re a monster’s claws. The green-eyed monster.

It’s like a snake in the grass. By the time you realize it’s there, it’s too late.

So how… why, really… where? No, no - how?How do you stop the Green-Eyed Monster?

You gotta find something it can’t get its grubby paws on. Bring forward something you’re glad you have.

You can’t be jealous of something you’re grateful for. Can you? No, not most of the time.

So look at that thing and focus on it. Focus like nobody’s business. Actually, focus like it’s someone else’s business. Your eyes are like super-glue to someone else’s business!

Then say how happy you are with that thing. Thank God that it’s yours and not someone else’s.

Even though God likely had nothing to do with it, and you were the one to make it happen. Just forget that for a moment and say thank you.

Keep doing that with more things you have. Kill ‘em with thank-ness… and that loser beast will finally turn tail, moving on to some other jerk with covetous eyes.
