eggplant

seeing is a circle

By Thomas MattsonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

wonder as spacious as my son and i want to be

the color of saying yes to everything. red jacket

inside a low and struggling morning, dark moss

absorbs the toppled retaining wall of your telling me

that dogs see fewer colors than butterflies.

drama molecules through what history climbs

because everything's afoot and you are a black dog

in the blue sky. i ask if there's a color

meaning sideways, the skin (as parenthesis)

and you say if i were a color i'd be purple

like an eggplant. in the liminal space between

wanting to have a good time and having it

maybe animals receive our trying to eat them

because everything's connected and colors happen

mostly in the brain

like smallness or fatigue, the penumbra

of putting words to things or your chalking

the sidewalk in pastels because seeing

is a circle and what's there is only there

if we are here to see it.
