Dear Apathy
I see you're back
Won't say I wasn't expecting this, with the
cold winter days encroaching and all
But I was fairly surprised to feel
your weight so early in the morning
First my right shoulder while I went to work
Then you dug into my left while I had
That annoying caller
And that was it, you had me
before I knew it.
Your weight digging in
Pressing me down
All my determination and
progress
gone
Just the weight of
not caring if
I do the list I made
Or meet my goals
Or even go to work
No, no care at all.
Just sit there,
with the monkey on my back
Oh, there's plenty of tv to watch.
Youtube never runs out of videos
Just sit there
sit
sit
sit
don't look outside
there's nothing there
anyway
Except
There is
The sun is out
and the air is cool
crispy even
If I could just get up
I will get up
I WILL
You'll see
I'll take you with me
Into the sun.
I know you don't like that.
And I think there must be a point to you
You're here to try and protect me
To try and make sure I don't let my big feelings get out of control
That the hurt is less when things go wrong.
I promise I understand why you do this
But you need to leave now
You had your time
but I get it
I won't let you steal me
away
and tie me
to that chair
and that laptop
again.
So thank you for your lesson
now get out.
