Dealing with Angst

Instructions for a feeling

There – there it is.

That meek, tiny whimper,

Pitifully demanding attention

Above all other priorities.

And for what?

Reassurance.

Comfort.

Connection.

There, in the dark corner,

Lies a shadow of you,

Frail and fearful

Clutching knees to chest.

Afraid of what?

What was.

What's to come.

Everything.

Take a deep breath.

Exhale slowly.

Purge the crippling worries.

Today is a new day.

What do you want?

Sunshine? Open the blinds.

Love? Start by showing some

To that you in the corner.

Sing your own song today.

Lyrics of power

Set to a score of compassion.

Life is yours to compose.

Dana, I appreciate how you turn angst into something we can interact with acknowledge, comfort and empower. It feels like a small act of kindness toward ourselves.

  • A delightful poem… I especially liked: “That meek, tiny whimper, Pitifully demanding attention Above all other priorities.”
