Climb out of bed and pull the covers taut

Then splash your face and brush your hair and teeth

Turn on the water and stand still beneath

Until your freezing skin is piping hot

A pan on low for fried eggs and bacon

A glass of water cooled with cubes of ice

Put on fresh clothes and shoes so you look nice

This is the path that’s seldom untaken

Instead you could do something that is real

Soak in the sun, eyes closed and take a breath

Pick flowers, stare at clouds, savor a meal

Find friends that will not part you until death

If more alive if what you wish to feel,

feel everything until there’s no life left.
