she is faster than all

must bring in a haul

to feed her cubs

no, not grubs

Fresh meat

is what they eat

Lions stalk and will kill her

she outpaces them in a blur

hard life on African plains

her survival is ingrained

Cheetahs do not eat carcasses. They need fresh meat and do not live in groups like lions. The lions and hyenas will kill a cheetah and her cubs. She has a very hard life, and despite the dangers and the larger big cats, cheetahs do their best to care for their cubs.

You expressed the powerful struggle and instinct of a mother hunting in the wild very well. Great job honoring this amazing animal.

I could clearly hear the rhythm of the AABB rhyme scheme you used. The quickness and urgency in your lines were palpable—it mirrored the speed of the animal. The maternal part of your poem is so strong. I loved how you instantly elevated the cheetah with "no, not grubs," establishing her as a powerful mother who is capable of so much more.

A powerful reminder of how fragile their survival is, even though they’re the fastest animals on land.

  • Hey, to the fastest mammal on Earth! What I didn't know..that they are the prey of lions!

I’ve leaned something new, Andi! I thought just like lions cheetahs lived in prides.

  • I didn't know that cheetahs are preys as well. Loved your poem!
