When I saw this, the flood began—
Tears FELL,
U-N-B-I-D-D-E-N,
like grains of sand.
I clenched my fists,
I bit MY tongue,
But sorrow slipped,
and I came undone.
Was it that easy? That swift, that light?
Did I MEAN nothing?
Was I never right?
I held my breath,
I held my H-O-P-E,
Only to end up grasping smoke.
Each tiny wound—paper-thin C-U-T-S,
A thousand unseen,
a thousand too much.
S-L-A-S-H-E-D,
M-I-S-S-P-O-K-E-N,
silently T-O-R-N,
Bled OUT in places never mourned.
First, they sting—then turn to stone,
ICE in my veins,
yet I’m all A-L-O-N-E.
Anesthetized,
tranquilized,
rationalized,
But where do all these SCARS reside?
I wander through fields where answers should GROW,
PAST tangled clouds and hills below.
Yet all I find are questions that S-W-E-L-L,
Rising like tides,
refusing to quell.
So I tell myself—I am ENOUGH,
The only LOVE I’ll ever trust.
No more waiting,
no more cries,
JUST M-E, beneath these endless skies.

A Love Forboding
The chipped stone slope caused unbearable footing. I slid, skirting on my heels. I cast my shield, relinquishing my guard to stay upright. Left with my double-edge and a prayer to the maker, I skated toward my objective. The earthly stubble gave way to solid ground. I found myself restored, a trail of dust in my wake.
