The days after Christmas

The feasting goes on

Long after most

Of the relatives have gone

*

But one thing’s avoided

The very most of all.

It’s Aunt Jenny’s fruitcake -

To partake is one’s fall.

*

Last year, my brother

Ate one little bite.

And then he had cramps

For the rest of the night.

*

One year, Cousin Ben

Claimed he ate a whole piece.

Within just one week,

He was morbidly obese.

*

A legend is told

Of my Great Uncle Joe,

Who ate a good bit

And grew wings like a crow.

*

So now, they are stored

In the dark basement hall,

And when we have many,

We’re building a wall!
