Things to Consider When Looking for the Right Pet For Your Family
When you decide to add a pet to your family, it shouldn't be taken lightly. It can be both exciting and scary at the same time! It is important for you to choose the right pet to complete your family. You need to make sure that you take the time to find the right pet, or you might not have a good experience. That being said, it does sound really difficult, though it doesn't have to be that way.

Sometimes, you just can't love enough
Think Taffy. Think sweet. Think sticky. Think candy and treats. Think the very opposite of all those conjurings and you will have a first insight into Taffy, the dog I loved who hated me. And the dog whose demise is scrawled in jagged letters across my memory. I loved him desperately and would have done anything for him but life, and what people had done to him – humans one would have thought responsible and caring – made him hate and mistrust me. I had Taffy as my pet dog between my ages of 8 and 15. And I have the scarred hands he left me to prove how very hard I tried to love him into fearing no longer.

Elliana ~ My ‘Designer Poodle’
It was early on the morning of April 23rd when the telephone rang. I was just getting ready to head out the door to do chores. My dear friend and neighbor wanted to know if I could help her out with a ‘situation’. She had just finished her morning check, in the lambing pen. Two of her ewes had delivered overnight, but there were 3 babies, and each ewe only wanted one. There was no way of knowing which one had twins.

Bo's New Freedom
It’s in his haunted eyes. When I drove to the city an hour away, the anticipation of meeting our new dog was filled with wavering trepidation. There were three sweet beagles available for adoption through the Beagle Rescue: all three cute as a button. They had their stories, their photos, their details pasted on the front page of the website like a dating site. Bo’s face was turned a little to the side, and I could just make out the speckles that identify him as a beagle. His backstory is what sealed the deal for me.

Gidget Ann
Back in 2012, it was a normal day in a high admission animal shelter where I worked in Maryland. We worked closely with other rescues, staff and volunteers to save the most animal lives we could. Due to the unimaginable amounts of animals we took in yearly, we sometimes had to make difficult decisions. It was no secret that I loved animals. We all did and that's what brought us all together, to adopt out every adoptable animal and never have to put any to sleep for space.

My Adventurous Mr. Wallaby
I was working at a zoo when a rusted out burgundy sedan pulled up to the back gate just as we were opening. The car door swung open and out of the back-seat leaped an all black lighting bolt of a puppy. The puppy ran through the gate into the zoo. The beat-up sedan took off, screeching its tires as it peeled away.

Cat anyone? Bird anyone?
Chapter 1 I was never a cat person. Nor was I ever a bird person to be honest. Look, you could say that I was an 'animal lover' ...in the sense that if either the National Geographic or Animal Planet channels was on, my eyes would be transfixed on the television screen, enjoying the colourful visuals and scenes of various animals (preferably cute ones of course) while also absorbing the dulcet tones of David Attenborough explaining interesting facts about whichever species of animal was the focal point of that episode.

Buster brown
I just wanna say when I walk into the dog shelter the first thing I hear are dogs barking, but for the first time in my whole life I walked past a kennel where a silent beagle was laying sprawled out like jello. My first thought was he was new or he was just scared but as soon as I turned the corner I hear an adorable “BOWOOOO” echo through the building. One of the tenants ran past me, right up to the dogs cage trying to see what was wrong.

Doggedly Determined
Sheltered from the warm summer drizzle in the garage of a suburban house, my family and I watched a dog rescue volunteer lift from a crate in the back of her SUV a little blonde bundle of fur. She latched a leash on its collar and set it down on the garage floor. We all watched the Lhasa Apso’s silent approach. She sniffed the floor and smelled our toes. She looked up with gentle brown eyes and cocked her head to one side.
