When friends ask me how I stay sane being a stay-at-home mom, I always tell them that fiber keeps me sane! This is true in more ways than one.

I had always worked a full-time job up until I got married and had my second child. It was then, my husband and I decided that it would be most beneficial for me to stay home with the kids and he would bring home the bacon, so to speak.

This sounded like an amazing plan! I don’t have to go to my boring office job every day and I get to see my kids ALL of the time! Who wouldn’t want that life, right? But, what I didn’t think about was what I would do with all of that free time. I mean, there is only so much cleaning and BabyFirst TV watching a girl can do! So, I went on a little soul searching mission.

I got on my phone and just started scrolling hoping to find something that would capture my interest and occupy some of this free time! I tried so many different things. I invested more money than I care to admit and just could not find that special “thing”.

And then one day I was watching YouTube, and a video popped up on my feed by a woman named Brittany, with B. Hooked Crochet, and it was a tutorial on how to crochet this adorable stuffed unicorn! My eyes lit up and I just knew! I had to make my daughter this squishy unicorn! And so my mission began.

I drove to my local yarn store and picked up the yarn, hooks and a great pair of scissors, and I drove back home and started making this unicorn. It was like it just clicked! It was magical! Nothing had ever come so natural to me and I just wanted to learn it all! So that is exactly what I did! I am still learning today.

Since making this precious unicorn, I have come such a long way! I have learned to knit, macrame, and even started designing my own patterns for all three of these fiber crafts! I can’t stop. Every single part of what I do makes my soul sing; from cutting the yarn or rope, all the way to photographing my finished projects!

Because of my husband, I have been able to find myself in fiber art and I have grown so much as a person on this journey. I have learned so much more than how to knit or how to tie fancy knots. I have learned patience, I have gained self worth that I never knew I had, and I have been able to help other people in so many different ways all while doing what I love! And that in itself is priceless!

So, if you are ever on a soul-searching journey, maybe stop and grab a pair of scissors and some yarn or rope. You might be surprised at how it can change your life!
