Jason Basaraba, A Great Action Imagery Writer On Vocal

I had the honor to interview Jason Basaraba better known on Vocal, JBaz. He has been married for 35 years and he has two adult children. Jason is a gifted writer in my book. No one can write about action in a story like he can. He gives great imagery of an action scene in a story.

Jason has several Top Stories and I have seen him a lot on Creators Vocal is loving.

Mariann(New York): Hi Jason, I wonder if you would let me interview you?

Jason (British Columbia): Mariann, I would be very honored. I should mention that I have been requested to take part in an interview as well(May). I very much enjoyed your interview with Dharr. You did a fantastic job with it. I am truly honored.

Mariann: Thank you so much, I hope. I won’t be stepping on anyone's toes.

Jason: What date were you thinking of doing the interview?

Mariann: How about I interview you now and I will publish it in October 2023, near your birthday?

Jason: Hi Mariann , ok, Just so you know I am one of those people who process what I am going to say ….( not always, but it is safe unless, I am at a party then it is free for all)

Mariann: Where are you from?

Jason: I am currently residing on the West Coast. Victoria B.C. ( On Vancouver Island)

Mariann: What’s your favorite topic to write about and Why?

Jason: My first love was fantasy, but I do not seem to write that way. I love historical fiction.

Mariann: How long does it take you to write a story:

Jason: I work, it is in my head first. Once I come up with the opening line and the way I feel it will end, I can write a story in a few hours. It is the editing and the rewrites that will take me at least a week to complete.

Mariann: What’s your real-life schedule and how do you fit your writing into it?

Jason: Wake up at 5 a.m. Home around 4 p.m. Try to go for a walk then shop for supper because I have different cravings every day. Cook supper, ( usually my wife assists and we visit) then I will sit down and try to write. Now that summer is here I will be working in the yard, which is relaxing. Perhaps watch a program then bed. Boring really.

Mariann: What do you like most about writing?

Jason: It lets me release what is in my brain. I think my entire life I always have a story roaming around trying to get out. A true story is an amazing thing.

Mariann: What is your main goal in your writing?

Jason: My main goal, I think deep down, I always wanted to be a published writer, but life happens.Once I became a father that was my passion. now they are grown I want to finish the stories I have written and publish a novel.

Mariann: How many children do you have?

Jason: I have Two, a boy and a girl actually a man and a woman, now.

Mariann: What does your writing space look like?

Jason: As I mentioned. I create stories in my head, first and foremost. for one thing, it is always with me (Thankfully) and it is constantly working. Once I had the idea My actual writing space is a den, I created a little area for myself. As long as I have an iPad or paper I can write anywhere.

Mariann: What are your other hobbies?

Jason: They change with time. I do love kayaking and golf. Put me outside and I am happy. Camping used to be my favorite, not in a campground but outdoors find a spot while on the river or lake and pitch a tent. Now a comfortable bed while traveling is more my style.

Mariann: What’s the best word to describe you?

(3 minute break )

Jason: I am back. One Word...That is tricky, My wife says complex but my son once said I was Curious, so yeah Curious. I think I want to know. If I meet someone I want to know them. When I am somewhere I want to know about its history.

Mariann: Who is your favorite Vocal creator?

Jason: I am going to go different on this one because there are so many, I enjoy. PJ Jackelman has always been one. Heather Hubler, Ally North. To pick one I have to say the late great Tom Bradbury. He inspired me and many others to be better. He was one of those special people. Like him, I consider a lot of people on Vocal friends that I never met.

Mariann: What are your most proud accomplishments on Vocal?

Jason: The first story I wrote on Vocal was a Top Story, I didn't have another until almost two years later. Since then, I have had a few more ( this year) I am unsure as to the numbers. What I have the most pride in is that a few of my stories have been written about by other writers, as picks to win or a must read etc. Knowing that other writers enjoy my work means more to me than many other achievements. Having said that, who doesn't want to win a Challenge?

Mariann: If you were given a chance to create a Challenge on Vocal, what would be your Challenge?

Jason: I suggested a few, one I think was to write a children's story. That is a challenge because children are honest they either will like it or let you know they do not.
