In today’s era of science and technology, we hear the phrase ‘Artificial intelligence (AI)’ too often but many of us don’t know what exactly ‘Artificial Intelligence’ is. It is machine-based intelligence that could be found in non-human systems that “think and act rationally” like humans. This machine based-intelligence can be found in the most modern appliances and equipment that are used in households and offices which makes the task more easy and even enjoyable. Although their most advanced and latest ones are used in the complex field of robotic science and technology. Tasks earlier done with a lot of manual and muscular efforts could now be attained with no sweat and small efforts. I would venture to say that artificial intelligence is among the highest scientific and technological achievements that humanity has ever attained in the post-modern civilization. But if we take the matter hypothetically, it can be a real threat to humanity. I would venture to say that artificial intelligence is among the highest scientific and technological achievements that humanity has ever attained in the post-modern civilization. What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence is the stimulation of human intelligence in a machine a way that thinks and acts like a human. Through this stimulation, machines are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. This term can also be applied to any machine that expresses certain qualities that can be associated with the human mind such as learning and problem-solving. The main concern of artificial intelligence is to rationalize and take actions to attain a particular goal. For instance, ‘Machine learning’ refers to the concept that computer programs can learn from and adapt to new data without being intervened by a human. With the help of 'Deep learning' computer can enable this automatic learning through the absorption of unstructured data such as text, images, or video.

Major types of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is categorized into two major categories: weak and strong artificial intelligence.

Weak artificial intelligence refers to a system that is programmed in a way to achieve a specific goal or perform a specific job. For instance, Amazon Alexa's and Apple Siri, where we ask questions from assistant and it answers our queries.

Strong artificial intelligence is designed to be a system that can perform complex jobs that seem to be human-like. This system is processed in a way that to controls a specific situation where it is required to solve certain problems without being the assistance of a human. Some of the prominent examples of these kinds of systems can be found in self-driving cars and hospital operating rooms.

How Artificial Intelligence can be a threat to the human race

According to The New York Times, some of the experts like Elon Musk and Nick Bostrom consider Artificial Intelligence is a threat to humanity. Many threats emerged with the development of Artificial Intelligence. One of the major issues is unemployment. As the technologic industry develops it automation of machine, it results in the rise of unemployment. Most of the technology experts argue that it will bring innovation in products and services and it might produce new employment opportunities. But we don’t see any obvious results. Another major threat is related to morality, the development of machine intelligence can bring the issue of our safety. Some of the giant companies like Facebook, Amazon, IBM, and Baidu are in the full race to develop AI machine, now it is a matter of concern that how these enterprises can assure us that they will not use this system for warfare. Moreover, how can someone gaureente us that the intelligence of these machines is competent enough to ensure our safety and security? One of the recent accidents of Tesla's autonomous car is a suitable example to portray the incompetency of the AI system. Furthermore, this incompetency is depicted in the best way possible in one of the science-fiction movies named 'iRobot' where a police detective is rescued by a robot from a car accident while leaving a girl to die. The reason for leaving her die is that her survival is statistically less than that of a police detective.

Promptly, as the AL capable of competing with human intelligence, jobs will be scarce and it will lead humans to fight for jobs on the economic level. Recently, a Chinese company named Midea Group offered a bid of $ 5 billion for the acquisition of German robotic company KuKa. China no more sees interest in those low-paid labor which they were famous for low-paid migrant labor. Their enterprise has halted rely on such a huge amount of low-paid labor and want to automate their manufacturing process. The recent report issued by the International Federation of Robotics considers China is the largest importer of robots. This report furthermore calculates that China has 326 robots per 10000 workers while the US and South Korea have 164 and 478 robots respectively for the same number of workers. Thus, it shows that companies are more prioritize the capability of automation processes which might harm employment.

Conclusion

Thus, we presume that from the above discussion that we are remaining in the situation with time where it is going to impossible to foresee the eventual fate of mankind concerning Artificial Intelligence. We generally embrace new advances that appeared to be changing our method of living. In any case, the significant certainty here is that the sort of progress we are accepting should bring a positive result for the welfare of society and ultimately for humanity. Artificial intelligence is the sort of technology that we ought to not take for granted. It is far more different due to its uniqueness of being act think and rationally from the other technologies human ever produced. Therefore, this uniqueness will not only exhibiting soon its positive impact on society but as well as severely negative impacts, too. So, if we are accepting it as a change that is expected to bring new ways of living a better life, then we should also be ready to accept its consequences in the future whether it is related to employment, privacy, or eventually the very existence of humanity.
