Yearning for the maiden
Across the waters

"Staring across the waters again?" Marcus asked. It was as if his friend were in a trance.
"Look... look... you can just see them?"
"See what?"
"Look... right there! The cliffs. like a maiden's smile... inviting... enticing."
"Ha ha... my friend, you spend too much time staring at that distant shore. You are as a man bewitched."
"Bewitched or not, I mean to visit her."
"I fear your advances will not be welcome."
"Welcome or not, I will take her. The plebs would love me for it."
"Gaius Julius, bed that maiden and the whole of Rome would love you."

“I will have it, Marcus.”
“Gaius, you have just conquered the Gauls. Must you possess the world, entire?”
“They say it is a land of tin and gold.”
“I have heard it is a land of savages, who paint their faces with blue-coloured shit.”
“Marcus, have you no appreciating of the nobility of tribal peoples?”
“What do they call these nobles of yours?”
“You said it yourself: ‘Britani,’ the painted faces.”
