The Queen of Deception
The Water Rises, Not Falls

The river ran backwards on the day the queen vanished. The winds of her magic mixed with that of her warlock lover to push the waters backwards while the waterfall appeared as if running up instead of down. The citizens of the kingdom believed she had been kidnapped by the evil warlock, what they didn't know was the queen actually chose to date him and run away in order for them to combine magic. This was a way to proclaim to the king how much magic they had for their own influence.
The king quickly appointed his new queen, the woman he was dating while the queen left him to be lonely. The citizens were outraged that the king had been with this new woman and ran to the castle to ask him to find and bring back the first queen. He sent knights to find her with no luck. The magic they were using created an allure they could hide under. The former queen and warlock continued to use more magic to tamper with elements. They created fires to burn food and flung rocks around to kill the animals of the kingdom. The citizens believed it was the current king who wanted to distract from the former queen's kidnapping and hoping everyone would forget about her.
The king and new queen then decided there was no other way but for them to leave the castle in order to find the plotting pair. The former queen cackled at her trap while she went to the castle with her new warlock groom and asked the citizens to help her take down the current king and his new queen so they could take the reign. The current king was furious, but quickly needed a new plan for the ambush to come. He sent knights to try and break through the queen's glamour of lies, pushing back against her charisma and spells in order to make the citizens believe the truth of what she had started.
The king gathered some allies, but he needed to figure out a greater plan. He thought about all the magic the queen was showing off and constantly wasting on the backwards waters. The king realized he probably still had some ties to the former queen, so he hoped this would help him be able to transfer the magic flowing through the waters. When he tried, he was ecstatic as the magic flowed right to him. He was then able to share part with his new bride as they set off back to the castle with extra power.
When they returned, he used the magic to let the citizens see what the former queen had done. She chose the warlock and wanted to take over. She was never kidnapped in the first place and the new queen was all he could turn to when his former wife kept running around with the warlock. The queen became too arrogant and used magic carelessly, not realizing the current king could then transfer that magic to himself, for she was after all still tied to the king and the castle.
The citizens were outraged at how they had been deceived and helped the king to trap the former queen and warlock in chains that would stop them from being able to use magic as they were escorted to the dungeon. The citizens apologized to their new queen for being so rude to her at her coronation and the kingdom suggested a feast and celebration festival to make up for their attitude toward her. She accepted and the kingdom rejoiced in their new queen.
