The Lonely Playground

By Timothy E JonesPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Just a few months ago, the playground was the go-to place for kids to go to and play, but that was before the snow covered everything from the merry-go-round to the swings and all the things that lie in between. For they were all the same, lonely for the attention that comes with the warmer weather, yes again they'll have their day.

For now, they were mocked by the presence of an ice-skating rink the park attendants put up overnight, where the kids that used to play there were now lured to this fly-by-night ice-skating rink by nice warm hot chocolate, cookies and a doughnut or too. And for the adults in the bunch, there was spiked coffee and genuine rum cake. It all wasn't free of course, the coffee, chocolate and even the sweets all came with a price.

Heck, even the use of the ice rink wasn't exactly free to be able to skate around on thin ice on rented skates. And in a few short weeks, the ever so expensive ice-skating rink will only be a memory; back to being a soccer field or whatever the heck it was supposed to be.

Yes, soon the snow will be gone, and the sun will come out, and all of the kiddies will be running back to take a spin on the merry-go-round or slide on the slide or swing on the swing, and maybe if they were lucky, the kids will do it for free.
