Chapter One – Tutorial Island

In the beginning Merlina had been skeptical of playing a virtual reality version of her favorite mmorpg Endless Memories, but as she created her character she compared how the different hair styles actually felt. This simulation was made to be realistic. Players could feel, taste and smell their way through the whole game. She picked a long hair style and made her hair purple. The bedroom she spawned in when she signed in seemed comfortable. There was a chest she spotted as soon as she signed in. Opening the wooden container she found a dagger. She was completely naked except for underwear and a bra. There was no option to take the bra or underwear off. Of coarse. What kind of admin would want players streaking everywhere you might ask? Ahem. Well that was enough of that idea Merlina thought as she remembered something she'd perhaps not want to mention in this story. She passed by a bathroom and pondered on the fact that she wouldn't have to use it while playing this game since she they put all players in an underwater virtual reality chamber to make the game work properly. She wasn't sure how it all worked, because they put her to sleep to hook her body up properly to the artificial intelligence. Players had to make it to level thirty before they would be allowed to logout. They did explain that as she signed the agreement, but she thought nothing of it since she had made it to level thirty before. How hard could it be right?

In the next room was an ordinary looking woman npc who gave her some water bottles. She put the rest of the water bottles into a backpack she'd found on the ground, but left one out so she could sort of study how it worked in this world. It looked to heal twenty health points so she didn't drink it just yet. Outside it was just like she remembered tutorial island being. In the center there were a group of golden pigs and outside lots and lots of goats. She equipped her dagger in her right hand putting the water bottle into her back pack and in her underwear started to attack a goat. She killed it in three hits which was way easier than she thought it would be. After just a minute she leveled up and added her stat points to con since she knew it would be the only stat to add anything, because you couldn't change your class on tutorial island. She watched as her health stats rose just a little when she added the points and then remembered the treasure hunt quest. She looked down at her nearly naked body and thought it was weird she was doing this quest before getting proper armor, but decided to press on. Maybe a higher level would get her some peasant clothes. This was just a little harder than she thought it would be, because she could feel her bare feet on the ground and a few times she stepped on a sharp rock which of coarse hurt like Hell. Not too many people were brave enough to try this version of Endless Memories, but she could see a few out in the distance slaying green blobs and collecting boots. She was slightly jealous they made it so far, so she took her dagger and slayed a goat which made it drop peasant clothes. The dress was made of a white top and poorly sewn together green skirt. Not ideal, but at least now she had a little protection.

As she finished the treasure hunt quest she gained a level and added her stats to con again. There was a shop she decided to enter. It was so empty. This play through so far was a lonely experience and she pondered if she should try talking to global. She opened up the chat box and a keyboard appeared to type anything where everyone could see it. Her mind prevented her from forming any words and she closed the window before talking to the shop keeper Cyndi. There were basic rings, bracelets and a rope belt she could craft for extra HP. There was also a small sword she could craft too. The small sword needed two daggers to be crafted. Thinking quickly she went back to the chest where she got her dagger and surely enough there was another dagger waiting for her. Now all she needed was some basic pelts and five goat horns to complete her ring set and get a better weapon. If tutorial island was taking her this long she wondered just how long it would be until she reached the level where she could finally logout. Her feet were filthy from walking around barefoot. After doing all the quests in tutorial island she was ready to leave. There was a boat with a sail and that's all she really needed was to get off that god forsaken island.
