An Important Newsflash!!
A Story Every Day in 2024 Oct 26th 300/366
We interrupt "Little Red Leaf" to bring you an exclusive update:
Today, Rachel Deeming, author ordinaire, (the extra having melted away many months ago) celebrated with a large yawn. The cause of such heightened and reckless behaviour? Her writing a microfiction every day for the last 300 days: a Spartan amongst writers.
We were lucky enough to talk to the writer when a gap in her very busy schedule as "the person who does everything that is required of her for the people who ask it of her" materialised.
Our interviewer, Truly A'Lye, reports about Rachel's achievement below:
Rachel looked blearily at this interviewer and sighed.
"Well, it's not been easy," she said, taking a sip of tea and bite of biccie. There was a long pause as this interviewer waited for the author to elaborate. After much time elapsed, punctuated by loud munching, it was clear Rachel was not going to expand, very obviously devoting more time to her biscuit eating than to her interview technique.
She added as she reached for another, "Thank goodness for these little fellas."
"But surely," this interviewer persevered, "you must be proud of what you have achieved so far?"
Rachel smiled. "But of course. I mean, I love writing and I've enjoyed the process but...," and she looked contemplative as she said this, "it's been a ballache."
This interviewer asked her to expand:
"It's like everything, isn't it? Once you know that you have to do it, it sort of loses its charm, doesn't it?"
This interviewer loves her job and so, was somewhat perplexed by this response, although was starting to get an inkling of how interviewing could be less satisfying with the wrong people.
Undeterred, this interviewer chose to continue positively:
"Well, only 66 more to go! Do you have anything highly original in the pipeline?"
Rachel grimaced and said, "I hope so but there's no guarantee."
When asked about her reticence, Rachel replied, "I'm saving my words...in case they run out."
Shortly after, this interviewer left, wishing Rachel well, biscuit crumbs sticking to her shoes.
Truly hopes that L.C. and Gerard, other authors partaking in the microfiction challenge alongside poet D.J. Reddall, are considerably less jaded.

I can barely believe that I have made it to this stage and my biscuit consumption has been major but I'm still here along with my compadres and so it continues, to the final sprint. Or crawl. Or collapse.
I'm going away for the weekend (again!), hence the influx of stories to take you up with "The Little Red Leaf" novella until Tuesday when I return. Looking forward to reading your comments on my return.
Thanks for stopping by! If you do read this, please leave a comment as I love to interact with my readers.

Well done on placing on the leaderboard 🤩
Rachel, this was stupid cute!!! I love the idea of you interviewing yourself!! Ps. Congrats on honourable mention this week for most discussed story!!
Keep it up, you biscuit-eating beauty!!!
Ah, dear Rachel, if I could, I'd ship you at least a dozen boxes of biscuits to help you persevere! This mock interview was delightful and reminiscent of something to be found amidst the pages of a Harry Potter novel.
I loved this mock interview. I'm so glad you've persevered with this challenge. I've been trying to get back in the habit of writing everyday. It's hard when you lose your momentum to get going again. But now I see there is a potential downside looming in my future. I've never had the luxury of writing enough to get burnout. I better go stock my pantry with diet Coke and cookies to get me through.
Hurray!! Wow, 300! Huge congratulations! Not surprising at all that you’d be conserving words and shoveling biscuits at this stage. This was a hilarious read! Hang in there!!
Congrats on reaching 300. There needs to be more research into the role played by biscuits in powering creativity. Does a hob nob deliver more words per crumb than a rich tea? Are bourbons officially the beast of biscuit land? (they're definitely the ones when you're trying to build biscuit-henge instead of proofreading that text). Is there ever a justification for those nasty pink wafer things that always seem to stick to the roof of your mouth in a slimy mess? And, most important of all, where are my chocolate digestives?
Wooohooooo congratulations on hitting 300! Looking forward to binge reading the Laney series hehehe. Yes, that's what I call it
Yay!🥳 Great achievement and persistence ✅ … you’re on the home run🤩. Ballache is a newby for me too 🧐. Enjoy your weekend… while I devour your latest masterpieces 🙃.
Truly loved this bit o fun & bicci, Rachel. I wish I had grown up with a better vernacular! I laughed out at "Our interviewer, Truly A'Lye, taking a sip of tea and bite of biccie" and "Thank goodness for these little fellas." I confess that "I'm saving my words...in case they run out" gave me pause for concern. Hope you are well and that you have a wonderful weekend!
Congratulations! And I learned a new word: ballache. Now to see if I can boost its use in the states.
Publish ever, perish never! We will see this madness through, come what may!
Ballache and biccies. What a day! Even your stories about being tired of writing are brill! Have a smashing weekend away.
I am not currently in a "why did I start this fucking ballache" phase, but I have had several of them. Biccies do in fact help significantly.
Lol my nutty nut Chum! Well done and congrats. The ordinaire bit made me chuckle for alittle! Also, I'm back home from Engerland now, had no internet for a while so catching up and yours was the first thing I saw! Lucky lucky girl!
I would attempt a congratulatory response, but I'm too busy eating my pb&j toast.
Congratulations! :)
