The snow outside had footprints, but I couldn't hear a soul in the silence of the night. The full moon rose above the hills, and the sharp sensation of cold ran down my spine. When I turned my back on the wilderness to go back inside, I saw a reflection of myself staring back at me, but this person had dead eyes.

    I truly think you should go with this one. With the scaffolding of what you have already, a choice flushing out of this could make it more powerful. Although I can't tell you what the path is, I can give you some food for thought:
